Jeep WJ Grand Cherokee Tow Hooks

Welcome to the JeepSpecs.com feature of some WJ Generation Jeep Grand Cherokee tow hooks. Want to feature your Jeep? Please get in touch with us and tell us about it!

Front and/or rear tow hooks are part of the Skid Plate Group package. The rear hooks were included only on vehicles without the rear trailer hitch option. Tow hooks are also available as an accessory from Mopar parts. All Laredos came with black hooks while on Limited models the hooks were chrome in 2001 and black for all other model years. On Overland and Freedom models they are chrome.

Caution: Tow hooks are for emergency use only, to rescue a vehicle stranded off road. Do not use tow hooks for tow truck hookup or highway towing. You could damage your vehicle. Stand clear of vehicles when pulling with tow hooks. Tow straps and chains may break, causing serious injury.

Front tow hook installation

For installation of the front hooks, the front fascia must be removed. See fascia removal directions Here. Once the fascia is off, the mounting plate is inserted into the mounting area as shown in the above left photo. The hooks are then attached to the plate from underneath. Using a 15mm socket, install two bolts into the plate and the third into the U-nut. The U-nut is installed into a rectangular opening that is already cut in the frame. Tighten bolts to 54 N·m (40 ft. lbs.) torque. Re-attach the fascia and grille components.

Rear tow hook

The mounting location for the rear hook is the same as for the rear trailer hitch receiver, so both of these cannot be installed at the same time. The rear hook is installed in the left rear corner, bolted to the frame. Note: bolts for the rear tow hook should be tightened to 68 N·m (50 ft. lbs.) torque.
