Recall D46: REPROGRAM PCM OBD FUEL SYSTEM MONITOR

NOTE: This recall applies only to vehicles equipped with a 3.7L engine and built through September 22, 2004.

Owner notification start date: January 2005

Defect: The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) on about 61,000 DCX vehicles was inadvertently programmed with incorrect software.

Consequence: This can cause the On Board Diagnostic (OBD) fuel system monitor to malfunction.

Solution: The PCM must be reprogrammed (flashed).

Customer Satisfaction Notice # E-03-05: Reprogram FCM / Fog Lamps

NOTE: This notification applies only to the above vehicles equipped with Fog Lamps (sales code LNJ) and Smart Beam headlamps (sales code LMS) built from August 30, 2004 through December 21, 2004.

Owner notification start date: February 2005

Defect: The Automatic Smart Beam headlamp system on about 17,200 of the above vehicles may not turn off the fog lamps as intended. This condition may be intermittent and could result in a run-down battery.

Solution: The Front Control Module (FCM) must be reprogrammed (flashed) with revised software.

RECALL E-13-05: TRANSMISSION FILL TUBE OIL SEAL
 

Recall Date: 09/08/2005

Potential number of units affected: 101,925

Model year(s): 2005. This recall applies only to vehicles equipped with a 3.7L engine and NAG1 transmission built through June 2, 2005.

Owner notification start date: Late-October 2005

Note: TSB #21-011-05 Rev. A is being cancelled.

Defect: The transmission fill tube oil seal on about 99,000 of the above vehicles may allow water to enter into the transmission.

Consequence: This can cause a torque converter related shudder and increase transmission temperatures. If the vehicle continues to be driven, transmission oil can spill onto the engine’s exhaust manifold and cause an underhood fire.

Remedy: The transmission fill tube oil seal must be checked for leaks. All vehicles must have the fill tube seal replaced and a water shield installed. Vehicles found with a leaking fill tube oil seal will also have the transmission flushed or the torque converter replaced.

RECALL N-23-13: TRANSFER CASE ACTUATOR

Owner notification start date: June 2013

Defect: A transfer case electrical failure may result in an unintentional shifting of the transfer case into the neutral position.

Consequence: If the vehicle shifts into neutral, it may roll away increasing the risk of a crash or personal injury

Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the final drive controller which governs the transfer case, with new software, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in June 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler’s recall campaign number is N23.

Owner notification start date: September 2014

Defect: Some Jeep Commander and Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles may experience an unintended change in ignition switch position while driving which may result in loss of engine power, power steering, and braking assist increasing the risk of a crash and disabling one or more of the vehicle’s safety features including the frontal airbags.

Remedy: Chrysler intends to repair your vehicle free of charge (parts and labor). However, the part required to provide a permanent remedy for this condition is currently not available. Chrysler is making every effort to provide the part as quickly as possible. Chrysler will contact you again by mail, with a follow-up recall notice, when the remedy part is available.

NOTE: NOTE: This notification applies only to the above vehicles equipped with a 545RFE automatic transmission (sales code DGQ) and a transmission built date code from TJ1015 through TJ2315. Many of the vehicles built within this date range were repaired before shipment to dealers and therefore have been excluded from this notification.

Owner notification start date: All involved vehicle owners known to DaimlerChrysler are being notified of the service requirement by mail. They are requested to schedule appointments for this service with their dealers.

Defect: The transmission on about 17,200 of the above vehicles may experience a delayed engagement when the shifter is placed into gear after the engine has been off for more than 12 hours.

Solution: The internal transmission cooler return filter must be replaced.

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company is announcing a Customer Satisfaction Campaign for Eagle RSA EMT tires fitted as Original Equipment on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 models.

Model year(s): 2006 Grand Cherokee SRT8

VIN range (last 8 digits): 6C100463 through 6C369570 (valid VIN number required)

DOT serial date: Tires manufactured on or before the 24th week of 2006 (ending June 17) are included in this campaign. The 4-digit “week/year” DOT serial date can be found a few inches to the right of the “DOT” impression on the back side of the tire. Tires with dates of 2506 or later (2606, 2706, 2806 etc.) do not have the defect. See photo of the date code below.

Owner notification start date: All involved vehicle owners known to DaimlerChrysler are being notified of the service requirement by mail direct from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.

Defect: Tread belt distortion. Tires need to be inspected by an authorized Goodyear EMT dealer (NOT your Jeep dealer) to determine if replacement is necessary. Not all tires have the defect. Tires need to be dismounted and inspected from the inside.

If any of the tires display evidence of distorted tread belts the tires will be replaced and balanced at no cost to the customer. If only one of the tires on an axle needs to be replaced due to the defect but the tires are significantly worn, both tires on the axle (front or rear) will be replaced as a set.

If an inspected tire does not display any tread belt distortion the tires will be remounted and balanced and placed back on the vehicle at no charge to the customer. The re-mounted tire/wheel assembly may be checked for road force on a Hunter 9700 or similar machine if available. Optimizing the assembly for the lowest road force should minimize any possible vibration complaints from the customer.

The replacement program is valid until April 30, 2007. Customers can contact the Goodyear Consumer Relations Department at 800 321-2136 to locate the nearest certified Goodyear Run-Flat tire retail outlet.

Tire mounting caution:

When the tires on mounted on the rim, make sure the dealer knows to align the high runout point mark on the new tire with the low runout point mark on the SRT rim (this information is provided in the Goodyear Product Bulletin for this campaign). The high runout point on the tire will be marked in the upper sidewall with a white dot and either the letter ‘A’ or a ‘+’ or ‘-‘ sign. The low point mark on the rim is marked with an ‘X’ engraved into the dropwell of the rim.

Safety concerns:

We have been told by Goodyear representatives that the tread defect does not constitute a safety hazard. Tires with the defect may cause a vibration or wobble similar to that of an out-of-balance tire/wheel.

Defect: The software programmed into the Electronic Brake Control (EBC) module on about 296,000 of the above vehicles may allow a momentary delay in braking when coasting up a hill during certain conditions. This could increase the vehicle’s stopping distance and cause a crash without warning.

Solution: The EBC module must be reprogrammed (flashed).

Defect: The software programmed into the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) control module on about 50,600 of the above vehicles may cause the rear brakes to lock up during certain braking conditions. This could result in a loss of vehicle control and cause a crash without warning.

Solution: The ABS control module must be reprogrammed (flashed).

Defect: The Front Control Module (FCM) on about 1,300 of the above vehicles may have been manufactured incorrectly. This could cause the vehicle’s engine to stall or not start and/or cause the windshield wipers to become inoperative. Engine stalling or inoperative wipers could cause a crash without warning.

Solution: The Front Control Module build date code must be inspected on all vehicles. Those vehicles that have Front Control Modules with a Julian date code of 337, 338, or 339 must have the FCM replaced and the new module configured to the vehicle.

Defect: The Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitters on about 169,800 of the above vehicles may exhibit poor retention to the valet key and could inadvertently separate from each other.

Solution: Both RKE transmitters must be replaced and the new transmitters must be programmed.

RECALL P-57-14: IGNITION SWITCH

Defect: Some of the above vehicles may experience a Frequency Operated Button Ignition Key (FOBIK) that may stick between the “START” and “RUN” position. This may result in the loss of certain electrical features.

Consequence: A FOBIK that is stuck between the “START” and “RUN” position while driving could experience an unintended change in ignition switch position to the “OFF” or “ACCESSORY” position due to “FOBIK spring back.” FOBIK spring back to the “OFF” or “ACCESSORY” ignition position may result in the loss of certain electrical features and/or a loss of engine power, power steering assist, and/or power brake booster assist. The loss of any of these features could increase the risk of crash under certain driving conditions.

Remedy:Chrysler intends to repair your vehicle free of charge (parts and labor). However, the part required to provide a permanent remedy for this condition is currently not available. Chrysler is making every effort to provide the part as quickly as possible. Chrysler will contact you again by mail, with a follow-up recall notice, when the remedy part is available. Defect: The instrument panel top cover on about 2,900 of the above vehicles may not have been manufactured properly. As a result, the passenger airbag may not deploy properly, which can increase the risk of injury to the passenger side front seat occupant during a crash.

Solution: The instrument panel top cover must be replaced.

Safety Recall J37: Brake Pedal Linkage Clip

Owner notification start date: January 2010

Defect: The brake pedal linkage clip on about 20,000 of the above vehicles, excluding Dodge Ram trucks, may have been manufactured incorrectly. While some Dodge Ram trucks may not have the clip installed. A defective or missing brake pedal linkage clip could allow the brake booster input rod to detach from the brake pedal which will result in a loss of the vehicle’s service brakes and could cause a crash without warning.

Solution: The brake pedal linkage clip must be replaced on all vehicles.

Safety Recall K05: Rear Suspension Track Bar

Model year(s): 2010 Grand Cherokee and Commander models built from December 9, 2009 through December 17, 2009

Owner notification start date: April 2010

Defect: The rear suspension track bar bushing hoops on about 3,400 of the above vehicles may have been incorrectly manufactured and could fail. A failed track bar could reduce vehicle stability and cause a crash without warning.

Safety Recall K08: Wireless Ignition Node Receiver

Model year(s): This recall applies only to the above vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission (sales codes DGJ or DGQ) built from January 8, 2010 through February 13, 2010.

Owner notification start date: August 2010

Defect: The Wireless Ignition Node (WIN) receiver on about 37,000 of the above vehicles may experience a condition where the Frequency Operated Button Integrated Key (FOBIK) may be removed prior to placing the automatic transmission gear shift lever in the ‘PARK’ position. This could result in unintended vehicle movement and cause a crash without warning.

Solution: The Wireless Ignition Node receiver must be inspected and replaced if necessary. The new WIN must be programmed and all FOBIK transponders must be programmed so they are able to interface with the new WIN receiver.

Vehicles equipped with a premium Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM) system (sales code XGM) must also have the spare tire pressure sensor identification number and location programmed into the new WIN receiver.

NOTE: Be sure to ask the customer to bring in all FOBIK transponders for the vehicle. At least two FOBIK transponders must be programmed before the vehicle can be operated.

RECALL N-23-13: TRANSFER CASE ACTUATOR

Model year(s): 2005-2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured February 11, 2004, through March 9, 2010.

Owner notification start date: June 2013

Defect: A transfer case electrical failure may result in an unintentional shifting of the transfer case into the neutral position.

Consequence: If the vehicle shifts into neutral, it may roll away increasing the risk of a crash or personal injury

Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the final drive controller which governs the transfer case, with new software, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in June 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler’s recall campaign number is N23.

Defect: The Final Drive Control Module (FDCM) software on about 295,600 of the above vehicles may cause the “Service 4WD” light to come on and an inability to switch 4WD mode when trying to shift out of the current selected mode.

Remedy: The Final Drive Control Module (FDCM) must be reprogrammed with new software.
