Jeep India Launches Compass Sport 9AT as Its Most Affordable Automatic SUV

Jeep India introduces more affordable Compass diesel automatic

Jeep India has introduced the Compass Sport 9AT, bringing a nine-speed automatic transmission to the entry-level variant of its premium SUV for the first time. Priced at ₹21.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the new model is the most affordable automatic Jeep Compass offered in India, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin in the second week of November 2026.

Diesel Power Meets Nine-Speed Automatic Convenience

The Compass Sport 9AT is powered by Jeep’s established 2.0-litre MultiJet II turbo-diesel engine, producing 170 HP and 350 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission designed to deliver smooth gear changes and effortless performance in everyday driving.

The front-wheel-drive configuration makes automatic convenience more accessible to buyers who want the Compass’s distinctive styling and driving characteristics without stepping up to a higher-priced variant. The addition also responds to growing demand for automatic transmissions in urban environments, where frequent traffic and stop-start driving make convenience a priority.

Safety, Technology and Driving Dynamics

Despite its entry-level positioning, the Compass Sport 9AT retains a substantial selection of safety and convenience features. Standard equipment includes six airbags, Auto Hold, cruise control, steering-mounted controls and electrically adjustable door mirrors.

Infotainment is handled by a 21.3-centimetre Uconnect touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The SUV also retains Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) suspension, which helps balance ride comfort and body control across varying road surfaces. Dynamic Steering Torque (DST) is designed to provide responsive steering characteristics and greater driving confidence.

Customers can also opt for an accessory package priced at ₹29,900 ($314 USD). It includes ambient lighting, a dashcam with predictive safety features, a Swoosh decal, all-weather floor mats and mud flaps.

Pricing and Availability

Commenting on the launch, Kumar Priyesh, Business Head and Director of Automotive Brands at Stellantis India, said the introduction of the automatic transmission in the Sport variant makes the Compass experience more accessible to Indian customers.

The wider Compass range continues to offer manual and automatic transmission options, alongside two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive configurations, depending on the variant.

With the Compass Sport 9AT, Jeep India lowers the entry price for buyers seeking a diesel-powered automatic premium SUV. Its ₹21.99 lakh ($23,101 USD) starting price, established MultiJet II engine and standard technology features position it as a more accessible alternative within the Compass lineup, with deliveries beginning in November 2026.
