2027 Jeep Cherokee Adds Trailhawk Trim, New Altitude Models, and Expanded Hybrid Lineup

What's new for the 2027 Jeep Cherokee?

Jeep is expanding the all-new Cherokee lineup for the 2027 model year with the return of the Trailhawk, two new Altitude variants, additional exterior colors, and a hybrid powertrain designed to balance fuel efficiency with everyday utility. Orders are now open, with the entry-level model starting at $37,125 and the off-road-focused Cherokee Trailhawk priced from $44,625, including destination charges.

Introduced for 2026, the latest-generation Cherokee continues its repositioning as a more efficient, technology-focused midsize SUV while retaining the capability expected of the Jeep brand. The 2027 updates broaden its appeal, giving buyers more choices between urban styling, premium features, and dedicated off-road equipment.

Hybrid Powertrain Delivers Up to 37 MPG

Every 2027 Jeep Cherokee is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four hybrid system. Jeep estimates fuel economy at up to 37 mpg combined and 39 mpg in city driving, with a potential driving range exceeding 500 miles on a single tank.

The non-plug-in hybrid configuration eliminates the need to connect the vehicle to an external charging source, making electrification more convenient for drivers who want improved fuel efficiency without changing their refueling habits. Jeep describes the Cherokee as its most fuel-efficient model ever without a plug.

Despite its efficiency focus, the SUV retains a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds. Jeep also claims best-in-class approach, breakover, and departure angles, along with a class-exclusive water-fording capability rated at 24 inches when properly equipped.

Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk Returns for 2027

The most significant addition is the Cherokee Trailhawk, which brings a more specialized hardware package for drivers who intend to venture beyond paved roads. Its equipment includes a class-exclusive two-speed power transfer unit paired with Active Drive II four-wheel drive, providing a low-range gearing option for challenging terrain.

Selecting Rock Mode engages a 2.92:1 low-range ratio, contributing to a claimed 37.5:1 crawl ratio. This gearing is intended to improve control at low speeds when navigating steep inclines, uneven surfaces, and rocky trails.

The Trailhawk also receives unique front and rear fascias to improve approach and departure angles, red tow hooks, protective skid plates, an off-road suspension, and 17-inch all-terrain tires. Flat-towing capability adds flexibility for owners who transport the SUV behind a recreational vehicle.

With these changes, the Trailhawk is positioned as the most trail-focused version of the new Cherokee range, rather than simply an appearance package.

Two New Altitude Trims Add Blacked-Out Styling

Jeep is also introducing the Laredo Altitude and Limited Altitude, both of which emphasize dark exterior detailing.

The Cherokee Laredo Altitude combines 18-inch gloss-black aluminum wheels and gloss-black exterior accents and badges with Capri leatherette seats featuring suede inserts. It targets buyers seeking a more upscale appearance without moving into the higher-priced trim levels.

The Cherokee Limited Altitude builds on the Limited specification with 18-inch gloss-black wheels, matching exterior accents and badges, and a gloss-black painted roof. The package gives the more premium-oriented Cherokee a darker, more distinctive appearance.

These additions expand the lineup to seven trims: Cherokee, Laredo, Laredo Altitude, Limited, Limited Altitude, Trailhawk, and Overland.

New Exterior Colors and Interior Options

The 2027 Cherokee introduces Fathom Blue and Ghost, with Copper Shino and Goldilocks scheduled for later availability. The full exterior palette also includes Bright White, Diamond Black, Sting Gray, Red Hot, Hydro Blue, and ’41.

Interior color choices include Global Black and Arctic, while Mantis Green is exclusive to the Trailhawk. This combination of new paint options and trim-specific interior treatments gives buyers more opportunities to personalize their vehicles.

Pricing, Production, and Availability

The 2027 Jeep Cherokee is assembled at Stellantis’ Toluca Assembly Complex in Mexico. Orders are open, including for the Trailhawk.

Model Starting MSRP, including destination
Cherokee $37,125
Cherokee Trailhawk $44,625

Both prices include a $1,995 destination charge.

The 2027 updates reflect Jeep’s effort to broaden the Cherokee’s appeal without abandoning its core identity. The hybrid powertrain prioritizes efficiency, the Altitude models introduce more distinctive styling, and the Trailhawk adds the low-range gearing and protective hardware needed for more demanding off-road use. Together, these changes make the Cherokee lineup more diverse for buyers choosing between daily commuting, long-distance driving, and recreational trail use.
