2011-2013 interior overview

The all-new 2011 Grand Cherokee interior is a feast for the senses – the smell of real leather (available), the visual beauty of real wood (available) and soft touch surfaces are everywhere. When the time came to redesign the Jeep® Grand Cherokee, Chrysler LLC’s Design Team jumped at the chance to reinvent, refine and re-establish the sport-utility vehicle (SUV) design that originally set the course for all other SUVs. In order to achieve these goals, the interior design team focused on ensuring superior quality, delivering exceptional fit and finish, providing focused attention to detail and raising the bar on customer comfort. In other words, their goal was to overachieve!

The all-new interior of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is comparable to the finest European luxury sedans and features rich materials and elegant appointments, as well as more room for both passengers and cargo. The interior is available in four distinctive new colors: Black, Dark/Medium Graystone, Black/Light Frost Beige, Dark/Light Frost Beige.>

The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee features an all-new instrument cluster that is surrounded by chrome, and features new backlighting, which makes it easier to read at night.

The instrument panel features soft-touch material with available contrast stitching that is carried throughout the interior, including the seats. Soft-touch material is integrated on other customer touch points as well, including doors, consoles and armrests. By using softer materials, the Jeep design team was also able to reduce interior noise levels.

A luxurious interior is a quiet interior, so Jeep engineers reduced Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) – by improving body stiffness by 146%, utilizing premium insulation and standard front door laminated side glass and incorporating noise barriers into the headliner and door trims – to make the cabin as quiet as possible.

Designers upgraded the interior for all price classes, enhancing the comfort, convenience and safety of all vehicle occupants. The interior craftsmanship is highlighted by standard and available premium interior appointments that include real wood and leather, automatic temperature control, chrome accents, aircraft-inspired LED lighting, premium seating with heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, four-way power lumbar controls, power tilt/telescoping steering column with memory, and two-tone upholstery. Tighter standards for fit and finish in the passenger area improve the overall look and feel of the vehicle.

Even in the cargo compartment, our commitment to refinement is easy to see. The well-appointed rear cargo area includes a storage unit with rechargeable flashlight and improved grocery hooks. The spare tire compartment includes removable dual storage bins. And for optimum convenience, an all-new power liftgate is available for effortless remote convenience.

Grand Cherokee’s Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) system is designed to deliver improved performance and function, providing 10% more airflow by reducing airflow restriction, allowing the system to flow large amounts of air very quietly. Airflow is uniformly distributed and quiet.

Two adjustable outlets in the back of the center console significantly improve cabin average temperature resulting in a temperature difference of only 1° between the front and rear seat areas.

The world-class Dual-zone Automatic Temperature Control allows completely independent driver-side to passenger-side control of temperature. The full range of comfort settings is available on either side of the vehicle, independent of each other. New controls are logical and easy to operate and understand.

The wheelbase on the all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee is over five inches longer than the previous model. It creates more interior room and gives passengers four additional inches of rear-seat knee and leg room.

Larger front door openings (almost 2 inches wider and 2 inches higher) and rear doors open 78° compared to the previous Grand Cherokee (67°) for better access to the interior. An available fold-flat front-passenger seat provides greater versatility by allowing long objects (i.e. an eight-foot 2 x 4) to be loaded inside the vehicle. Once flat, the hard plastic seatback also serves as a utility table.

Cargo volume behind the second-row is 36.3 cubic feet. That’s an increase of 17% (an additional 6.8 cubic feet) compared to the previous model. The rear cargo area includes: a storage unit with removable/rechargeable flashlight, a tethered 12-volt electrical power outlet and an available grated, protective floor accented with a durable and bright finish (Limited and Overland).

The load floor system has a carpeted surface. It features a latch for lifting the floor lid. The load capacity of the cargo load floor system is 250 pounds.

The spare tire compartment includes two large removable storage bins for secure storage.

An all-new available power rear liftgate can be operated from controls on the overhead console, a button in the rear cargo area or the keyfob. The flipper glass window is standard on both the power and manual liftgate.

The lockable glove box is larger. Inside the door is a dedicated slot for User Guide storage.

An all-new center console contains dual storage bins, an iPod docking station that is capable of storing up to seven CDs or DVDs, removable and washable cup holders, a 12v power outlet with tether cap, an LED-lighted USB connection, and in the rear, video jacks and an 115v power outlet inverter for video games.

An overhead console is standard on all models. It includes two incandescent lamps, two LED map/reading lamps, a covered storage bin, sunglass bin and control switches for the available HomeLink®, power sunroof, power sunshade (on dual pane) and power liftgate.

The all-new CommandView® Dual-Pane Panoramic sunroof provides twice as much glass surface than a standard sunroof and extends from the windshield to the rear of the vehicle. It consists of two glass panels – one at the front and one at the rear. CommandView also features a power sunshade to cover the deep tinted glass panels when closed.

A traditional power sunroof is available with the Rear DVD Entertainment Center.

Passive Entry and the Keyless ignition push-button starter are standard.

Standard Active Head Restraints deploy in the event of a rear collision in order to minimize the gap between the head restraint and occupant’s head.

Standard seat-mounted side thorax air bags enhance protection of the driver and front passenger.

Standard laminated glass.

Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) and Rear Cross Path (RCP) accident avoidance safety system notifies driver of vehicle(s) in blind spots with illuminated icons on side-view mirrors and/or an audible chime (late availability).

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) decreases vehicle’s pre-set cruise-control speed when closing in on another vehicle or when another vehicle pulls into same lane (late availability).

Forward Collision Warning (FCW) system detects when the vehicle may be approaching another vehicle too rapidly and alerts the driver.

“My Jeep” phone Application (industry first).

SIRIUS Travel Link gives drivers up-to-the-minute information about gas prices, weather conditions, sports scores, movie listings and SIRIUS Traffic, which monitors traffic in 78 markets across the U.S. and continuously displays conditions through the vehicle’s navigation system (late availability).

Premium Alpine audio system features nine speakers, surround sound and a 506-watt sub woofer.

Uconnect Navigation features all-new Garmin navigation.

Uconnect Multimedia features SIRIUS Backseat TV.

2014 interior overview

Grand Cherokee interior delivers new levels of comfort, technology, convenience and luxury The award-winning interior of the Jeep Grand Cherokee is elevated for 2014 and is clearly one of the most technically advanced in the industry, while boasting an array of upgraded premium soft-touch materials.

“From a mechanical and technological standpoint, the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee reaches a new level of refinement, so we needed to create a premium interior that pushes the boundaries of interior design even further,” said Klaus Busse, Head of Interior Design – Chrysler Group LLC. “Inspired by locations around the globe, we employed colors, tones and textures that not only portray the go-anywhere nature of Jeep, but that also enhance the luxury experience.”

Immediately noticeable is the revised center stack featuring the new 5-inch or 8.4-inch touchscreens. Controls for radio and climate are found below the screen and have easily identifiable knobs and buttons. Following the integrated center stack down onto the center console reveals a new T-handle shifter for the eight-speed transmission. This advanced e-shifter is wrapped in leather and gives Grand Cherokee a leading-edge feel to the cockpit.

Another recognizable change is a new three-spoke steering wheel. Wrapped in leather, it features sections of real wood on Overland and Summit models. All Grand Cherokee models will have standard paddle shifters mounted on the back of the steering wheel.

The new steering wheel perfectly frames the new customer configurable multiview gauge cluster that now features 7-inch Thin-Film Transistor (TFT) technology on every Grand Cherokee model. This screen allows drivers to select from a multitude of layouts and information that can be displayed in the center of the gauge cluster, enhancing personalization of the interior.

Designers took inspiration from legendary locations from around the world when creating the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee’s interior. Each Grand Cherokee model has its own unique style of luxury and ambiance based on materials and color patterns.

Grand Cherokee Laredo and Limited interiors were inspired by the cultures and environments of Morocco and New Zealand. The Black interiors were inspired by the Moroccan lifestyle seen at night with its warm metallic golden accents. The seats, instrument panel, consoles and door panels are a Black monotone and feature a Miknasa Walnut interior trim finish.

The New Zealand interior is two-tone Black and Light Frost. Nador Brown Walnut interior trim finish with light anodized driftwood adorns the instrument and door panels and eases the contrast between the two-tone upper and lower interior.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited models have a slight gold hue to their brushed aluminum look and add Capri leather seating, bright sill scuff plates and bright metal accents to the bottom edge of the wood interior finishes.

Open-pore wood is one of the prominent design cues found on the dash and doors of Grand Cherokee Overland models, and adds a distinct touch of modern luxury along with three interior color choices unlike anything ever seen in a Jeep vehicle. Wood trim is also found on the top portion of the leatherwrapped steering wheel.

A new interior color scheme, Jeep Brown and Indigo Blue, is inspired by the blue-hued dark gray walls of Mount Vesuvius, and features two-tone perforated Nappa leather seating with contrasting bright piping and stitching. The dark, rich Indigo Blue leather is found on the seat backs and bottoms, steering wheel, the center of the front armrest and the lower instrument and door panels. Dark Jeep Brown is found on the upper half of the stitched-leather instrument panel, the inner edges of the seat bolsters, the outer edges of the front center armrest and on the door upper panels. Contrasting bright stitching also lines the door panels and center arm rest. Open-pore brown Zebrano wood with contrasting silver trim is found on the instrument panel door panels.

On the opposite end of the spectrum is the Jeep Brown and Light Frost interior derived from the geographic diversity found in the Asian country of Nepal. The perforated Nappa leather seats, center console, and the lower instrument and door panels are finished in Light Frost with the steering wheel and upper instrument and door panels finished in Jeep Brown. Open-pore brown Zebrano wood with contrasting silver trim is found on the instrument panel door panels, and the trim surrounding the shifter, dash vents and door handles takes on a silver hue.

The Grand Cherokee Overland is also available with a Black Nappa leather interior with open-pore Nador Brown Walnut wood trim and contrasting silver trim.

A final touch to the interiors in Overland models is the addition of ambient rear-seat footwell lighting.

Grand Cherokee Summit models continue to carry the torch for premium interiors in the SUV segment. Premium Natura-Plus leather seating with heated, ventilated and memory front seats are featured in Summit, and are available in Black or Jeep Brown with copper accents. The Jeep Brown interior is inspired by the warm brown and amber hues seen in the Grand Canyon in the southwestern United States. Summit Brown open-pore wood is found on the instrument and door panels, and copper leather stitching adorns the leather-covered instrument panel, seats, doors and center armrest.

Also unique to Summit is a suede-like material covering the A-pillars and headliner, and bright trim surrounds the door-mounted speaker grilles.

Another impressive feature found on Summit models is a 19-speaker, 825-watt high-performance Harman Kardon surround sound audio system. This state-of-the-art system features a 12-channel amplifier and three sub-woofers, and surrounds the occupants in high-definition sound.

The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee is still a utility vehicle, and several storage and convenience features have been designed into the rear cargo area including a grated, protective floor accented with a durable and bright finish. The spare tire has a dedicated space underneath the cargo floor that also contains two removable bins ideal for storing beverages or muddy gear. Also in the rear cargo area is a storage unit with a re-chargeable flashlight. Grocery hooks are placed on each side of the rear cargo compartment, and cargo capacity with rear seats up is 36.3 cu. ft. and 68.3 cu. ft. with rear seats folded flat.

The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee interior is available in four distinctive new colors: Black, Light Frost, Jeep Brown with Indigo Blue (Overland only) and Jeep Brown (Overland and Summit).

2011-2013 seats

Seats

Evaluations of domestic and international competitors’ seats, combined with the results of past practices and benchmark studies, were used to develop the new Grand Cherokee’s seats. The seat designs were assessed and tuned through ride and drive evaluations. The program objective was best-in-class seat comfort.

The front heated seats switch is located on the center stack. The controls for the rear heated (outboard) seats are located on the rear of the center console. High and low settings are available.

For seat ventilation, the system has two levels: high and low. Pressing the switch once selects high-level ventilation. Pressing the switch a second time selects low-level ventilation. Pressing the switch a third time shuts the system off.

Some of the key seat design/construction improvements include:

  • All-new seat structure for both front and rear seats with improved comfort
  • Enhanced seat bolster contours for maximum comfort
  • Premium leather and cloth fabrics for comfort and wear
  • Molded shoulder corners for a robust look
  • All-new enhanced color combinations
  • All-new industry first recycled polyurethane (PU) foam in the seats (Significantly reduces the amount of scrap going to landfill. This material reduces the carbon footprint associated with the use petroleum based chemicals in the
  • manufacturing of PU foam)
  • Standard front seat-mounted pelvic & thorax airbags
  • All-new standard front seat Active Head Restraints
  • Standard front Passenger Belt Alert
  • A standard manual front passenger fold-flat seatback (Laredo only) for added cargo convenience
  • Standard power lumbar on driver seats and power passenger seats
  • Standard driver 8-way power and available passenger 8-way power seats
  • Added two standard front-seat map pockets
  • Available heated front seats, available heated rear seats and available heated & ventilated (cooled) front seats
  • Available front driver side memory seat

2011-2013 steering wheels

The 2011 JeepR Grand Cherokee’s steering wheel and column are as unique as each driver. Individual features such as adjustable tilt and telescoping (standard) steering wheel and available heated steering wheel (standard on Overland, available on Limited) ensure hassle-free driver control and comfort.

The heated steering wheel function is activated by either a switch located on the center of the instrument panel below the climate controls, or by the remote start function. If the system is enabled in the customer programmable settings, and the outside ambient temperature is in the proper range, then when the remote start feature is activated, the heated steering wheel and heated or ventilated seats are activated.

A sensor in the steering wheel measures the wheel temperature and the system heats the steering wheel to a factory preset temperature. When the temperature attains the preset level, the heat function shuts off. The switch on the IP is pressed once to either activate or deactivate operation, depending upon the heat module’s current status. The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee has all-new steering wheel and steering column-mounted controls. These controls offer more function and comfort than any previously presented on Grand Cherokee including:

On the front of the steering wheel:

  • All-new EVIC controls
  • Cruise control or available adaptive cruise control
  • Uconnect hands-free phone control

On the back of the steering wheel:

  • Remote radio controls

The New Jeep Grand Cherokee offers both power and manual tilt and telescoping steering columns. The steering column provides drivers with multiple steering wheel positions for added fit and comfort. It allows the customer to adjust the steering wheel position both up and down (tilt) and in and out (telescoping).

The available memory system includes the power tilt/telescopic feature (along with power seat) to insure the preset position each of the two drivers set for optimum comfort, is achieved. The memory operation is integrated into the power seat switch. When entering and exiting the vehicle, the steering wheel retracts to its normal position for customer convenience.

2011-2013 EVIC

Electronic Vehicle Information Center

The new Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) interactive digital display allows simple-to-program personalization, lighting, and other remote functions. It contains more information and functions than the previously-offered EVIC.

The at-a-glance menus and easy-to-follow readouts with handson- wheel navigation controls make this next generation EVIC the most sophisticated, yet user-friendly available.

The EVIC is located in the lower portion of the speedometer cluster, with navigation controls mounted on the front of the steering wheel. The new location of the display provides improved readability and is intended to help the driver focus on the road.

The EVIC allows the driver to select from a menu of useful information, including:

  • Compass
  • Outside temperature
  • Audio mode
  • Average fuel economy
  • Distance to empty (DTE)
  • Trip elapsed time
  • Tire pressure
  • Personal settings

Warning messages (i.e., low fuel, door ajar, etc.) are also displayed in this area for driver and passenger security and will override a displayed menu selection.

2011-2014 dual-pane panoramic Sunroof

CommandView® dual-pane panoramic sunroof
The new Grand Cherokee offers the open air freedom of a convertible, with the convenience of a sunroof. For customers who want a real open air experience, a traditional sunroof isn’t enough. That’s why the new Grand Cherokee offers CommandView®. The available all-new CommandView® dual-pane panoramic sunroof provides twice as much glass surface as a standard sunroof, and extends from the windshield to the rear of the vehicle. The front panel can be opened rearward, providing additional light and fresh air to first-row passengers. The rear panel, which is fixed, allows light and open viewing for secondrow passengers and comes standard with a power sunshade

2011-2014 Power Liftgate

Power liftgate

An all-new available power rear liftgate provides effortless remote up/down convenience. It can be operated from controls on the overhead console, a button in the rear cargo area or from the keyfob.

The liftgate has a separate handle, giving customers easier access when loading and unloading packages. Lights are integrated into the lower portion of the inside of the liftgate. When the liftgate is opened, the lights shine down on the area immediately behind the vehicle. This features is especially handy at night.

The flipper glass liftgate window is standard on both the power and manual liftgate. It is operated with a release button located below the liftgate handle and on the key fob. The lift-glass window allows easy access to the interior without having to open the liftgate – perfect for quick placement of groceries or off-road gear.

When the power liftgate is opening or closing, if it detects sufficient resistance, such as an obstruction in the liftgate’s path, the system will immediately stop movement and reverse the direction of travel to the full open or closed position to protect both the liftgate and whatever is obstructing its path.
