Front axle
Grand Cherokee SRT8 C200F front axle
Fluid change interval (factory spec):
30k miles / 15k miles severe duty
Fluid type:
Mopar® SAE 75W-140 Synthetic API-GL5
Mopar p/n 04874469, MSRP $30.00 per quart
SRT8 models DO NOT require limited slip additive
Fluid fill:
Up to 57.5 oz (± 2 oz.)
Drain and fill plugs:
14mm hex
Torque to 44 ft. lbs. / 60 N·m
** Caution ** Be careful when working around the exhaust and other engine parts as they may be hot!
** Warning ** If using a floor jack use jack stands! Wheel chocks are also recommended.
1. Take vehicle for short drive to warm up the fluids. Raise vehicle. Ensure that the vehicle is level on the hoist. If using ramps or a floor jack, raise front of vehicle for enough access to crawl under the front fascia. Set vehicle e-brake firmly, vehicle in Park, ignition off. If using a floor jack use jack stands! Wheel chocks are also recommended.
2. Remove fill bolt and then drain bolt to drain fluid. Allow 10-15 minutes for oil to drain. There is only a little over 3″ of tool clearance in front of the fill bolt. A 14mm hex socket designed for a 3/8″ ratchet works perfectly. A 14mm allen wrench can also be used if it is not wider than 3″. A 14mm hex socket made for 1/2″ socket wrenches may be too long to allow removal of the bolt. I was able to fit a 1/2″ ratchet with a 14mm hex socket in place enough to loosen the bolt about 1/2 turn. I then removed the ratchet and finished loosening the bolt with a 9/16″ open end wrench attached to the hex socket end.
3. For fluid fill, attach a piece of rubber hose to a pointed bottle cap, there is enough room in the fan area to hold the bottle high enough to drain into the axle. Make sure that the rubber hose is very securely to the bottle nozzle. A fluid pump, available at auto parts stores, can also be used. Fill until the fluid starts to ooze out.
4. Replace fill bolt and tighten to spec. With a shop rag clean all areas around drain and fill holes and any other areas where oil may have spilled. Before lowering vehicle check work areas underneath the vehicle for any tools.
Rear axle

1. Take vehicle for short drive to warm up the fluids. Vehicle does not have to be raised to access the rear axle. Set vehicle e-brake firmly, vehicle in Park, ignition off. If using a floor jack use jack stands! Wheel chocks are also recommended.
2. Remove fill bolt and then drain bolt to drain fluid. Allow 10-15 minutes for oil to drain. The end of a 3/8″ ratchet fits perfectly for removal of the drain and fill bolts.

Transfer case
Grand Cherokee SRT8 NV146 transfer case
Fluid change interval (factory spec):
30k miles
(WKJeeps.com recommendation: 10k miles for first change, every 15k thereafter)

Mopar NV146, p/n 68001758AA, MSRP $52.00 per quart
!! Usage of other fluids/lubricants is not recommended !!
Fluid fill:
Up to 3.8 pts. (60.8 oz./1.9 qts.)
Note: Most owners have been reporting fill volumes in the 40 oz. to 55 oz. range
Drain and fill plugs:
10mm hex
Torque 15-25 ft. lbs. / 20-34 N·m

If using ramps or a floor jack, raise front of vehicle enough for access under the drivers side below the doors. Set vehicle e-brake firmly, vehicle in Park, ignition off. If using a floor jack use jack stands! Wheel chocks are also recommended.
2. Remove fill bolt and then drain bolt to drain fluid. Allow 10-15 minutes for oil to drain.
3. For fluid fill, a bottle pump is recommended as there is very little room above the transfer case. The fluid full level on the NV146 is 25-35mm (0.98-1.38 In.) below the bottom of the fill plug. This is different from the other Grand Cherokee applications. It is important that the transfer case not be overfilled and that the correct fluid is used.
NOTE: For measuring the fill level, obtain a length of thin steel rod. Bend a section 1.5″ long (38mm), 90 degrees to the remainder of the rod. Use the bent end of the steel rod as a dipstick to determine the fluid level in the transfer case.
4. Replace fill bolt and tighten to spec. With a shop rag clean all areas around drain and fill holes and any other areas where oil may have spilled. Before lowering vehicle check work areas underneath the vehicle for any tools.
Additional information
When all finished, take vehicle for a short drive. Upon return examine axles and t-case for any sign of fluid leakage. Check under vehicle for the next few days to confirm no leaks are present.
